Sònia Parella Rubio is a Doctor of Sociology and tenured professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona Department of Sociology. She currently coordinates the CER-Migrations interuniversity and interdisciplinary research centre (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona-University of Barcelona). Her areas of specialisation are the sociology of migration, ethnic-racial relations, and migration governance. She has published several books, book chapters and academic articles on these topics.
