Alfonso González Bondia

Alfonso González Bondia is a jurist and general director of European and Mediterranean Affairs in the Government of Catalonia. He holds a PhD in Law and he is professor at the Area of Public International Law and International Relations in Rovira i Virgili University (URV). His main fields of study are the European Union’s foreign policy, the relations between Europe and local bodies, the legal regime of international and European security and defense, public participation processes and self-determination and secession processes. During the period 2011-2015, he was Dean of the Faculty of Law at Rovira i Virgili University and member of the Center for Studies in Environmental Law of Tarragona (CEDAT). He has also been a visiting researcher at the European University Institute (1994) and a fellow of the NATO Research Fellowships Program (1996-1998). He is member of the European Foreign Policy Observatory of the Barcelona Institute of International Studies (IBEI) and he is currently working on the research group “Territory, Citizenship and Sustainability” at the URV. He is also member of the Editorial Boards at Revista d’Estudis Autonòmics i Federals (Journal of Autonomous and Federal Studies) and Revista Catalana de Dret Públic (Catalan Journal of Public Law).
