Gabriel Magalhães is a lecturer of Literature at the Universidade da Beira Interior in Portugal. He began his teaching career at the Universidad de Salamanca, where he received his PhD in 2000. He has published several works in Portuguese and Spanish on Iberian themes: Garrett e Rivas: o romantismo em Espanha e Portugal (2009), Los secretos de Portugal (2012), Como sobreviver a Portugal continuando a ser Português (2014), Los españoles (2016) and El país que nunca existió (2023). He received the Revelation Award from the Portuguese Writers Association for his novel Não Tenhas Medo do Escuro (2009). He is also the author of other novels, such as Madrugada na Tua Alma (2011) and Os Crimes Inocentes (2018). His books have been translated into Catalan, Spanish and Italian. He has been a contributor to La Vanguardia since 2009.
