Gemma Aubarell

Gemma Aubarell is responsible for Mediterranean Strategy and Networks in the Foreign Action Department of the Government of Catalonia. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Politics and Sociology from the Complutense University of Madrid and a Master’s degree in European Studies from the University of Brussels. She has been Director of the Program Department at the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) and Director of the Programs and Networks Unit of the Anna Lindh Foundation in Egypt. She has participated in initiatives such as the organization of the I Civil Forum Euromed (1995) or the project Forming Responsible Citizens (2017). She is a lecturer at the Faculty of International Relations and Communication at URL and a member of the GRITIM-UPF Interdisciplinary Research Group on Migration. She is the editor, co-author and author of books and articles on civil society, migration, intercultural dialogue and Euro-Mediterranean relations, including “Immigració i qüestió nacional: minories subestatals i immigració a Europa” (Immigration and the National Issue: Substate Minorities and Immigration in Europe, 2004) and “Migraciones y desarrollo. Estudio de dos casos particulares: Ecuador y Marruecos” (Migrations and Development. Study of two particular cases: Ecuador and Morocco, 2004). Aubarell is part of the ethics committee of the Horizon 2020 TransGang project.
