Joan Esculies Serrat

Joan Esculies Serrat is a writer and historian who has published several essays and academic articles focusing on the 20th-century political Catalanism. He holds a PhD in History at the University Institute of History Jaume Vicens Vives of Pompeu Fabra University (2012), with the thesis Josep Tarradellas (1899–1936). Dels orígens a la Guerra Civil. He also holds a postgraduate degree in Strategic Communication Management at ESADE Business School and a Master’s Degree in Nationalism and Ethnic Conflict at Birkbeck College, University of London. Since 2020, he has been a professor in the Faculty of Business and Communication at the University of Vic, Central University of Catalonia. He is the author of biographies such as A la recerca de Prat de la Riba (2017); his last book is entitled Tarradellas. Una certa idea de Catalunya (2022). He regularly writes in La Vanguardia. His research interests revolve around Spanish and Catalan history, political leadership, the comparative history of 19th- and 20th-century European nationalisms, the paradiplomacy of nationalist movements and Catalan radical nationalism.
