Josep Pich Mitjana

Josep Pich Mitjana is a Contemporary History professor and lecturer at Pompeu Fabra University. He is graduated in Geography and History at the University of Barcelona and in Law at UNED. He also received a PhD in Contemporary History at UPF (1999), with the thesis Valentí Almirall i Llozer (1841-1904) i la gènesi del catalanisme polític. He is specialized in the movement for Catalan autonomy history, both its political and cultural aspects. His research focuses on the Spanish second half of the 19th century and beginning of 20th century political history (from the six democratic years to the Restoration); Catalan second half of the 19th century and first decade of 20th century political and cultural history; Federalism; Movement for Catalan autonomy; and Spanish imperialism in Morocco. He is a senior researcher in the UPF’s States, Nations and Sovereignities Research Group (GRENS). He has published numerous articles in specialized journals. He is also the author of: El Centre Català: La primera associació política catalanista (1882-1894); Almirall i el Diari Català; Federalisme i Catalanisme: Valentí Almirall i Llozer (1841–1904) o Els llums s’apaguen a tot Europa. La fi de la Belle Époque. Recently, in 2019, he published La Revolución de 1909, together with David Martínez Fiol.
