Lara Lars

Lara Lars illustrates monthly for Vanity Fair magazine and has been a collaborator in Radio Nacional’s “Entre dos Luces” since 2018 , where she has her own section. An architect by training and an artist by vocation, she fell in love with the art of illustration through collecting vintage prints. She was fascinated by the portrayals of women in the 1950s / 1960s advertisements, but she felt that her roles and attitudes did not portray her well. There came the idea of recontextualization, turning these women into empowered women, with an attitude of strength and determination, protagonists of their own history. Her other fetishes —UFOs, papier-mache monsters, kistch postcards, brutalist buildings— completed the formula of anachronistic elements Lara Lars uses to create suggestive retro-futuristic prints. Her creations have served to illustrate the 2021 editions of the Veranos de la Villa and the Orgullo poster. In addition, she has also collaborated with magazines such as AD, Vogue, Glamor, Marie Claire, and with prestigious publishers and brands.
