Liesl Louw-Vaudran
Liesl Louw-Vaudran is a senior researcher and project leader on Southern Africa at the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) in Pretoria. She is also the editor of the ISS’ monthly publication about the African Union, The PSC Report. She holds a Master’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Pretoria and is the author of two books and several articles, including “Leading through consensus: South Africa chairs the AU” (ISS Policy Brief, 2019), “The meaning of Morocco’s return to the AU” (ISS North Africa Report, 2018) and “Can South Africa regain its gravitas in Africa?” (Security Institute for Governance and Leadership in Africa – University of Stellenbosch, 2017). Her book on South African foreign policy, South Africa in Africa: Superpower or Neocolonialist?, was published in 2016. She is also a board member of the In Transformation Initiative, a not-for-profit organisation focusing on peacemaking in Africa and elsewhere.
