Milica Uvalić
Milica Uvalić is currently a visiting fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre of the European University Institute in Florence. She was a Professor of Economics at the University of Perugia, Italy, from 1992 to 2023. Formerly, she has also been a member of the United Nations Committee for Development Policy, a Public Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Centre in Washington DC, and an Assistant Minister in the first post-Milošević government of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (2001). Her research interests include economic and political processes in Central Eastern Europe, particularly the Western Balkans; economics of participation and comparative economic studies. She has published widely on various topics, in particular Western Balkan countries’ economic development, privatisation, trade, foreign direct investment, labour markets, higher education, industrial policies and EU integration. Her most recently published book is Integrating the Western Balkans into the EU – Overcoming Mutual Misperceptions (2023, Palgrave Macmillan).
