Oriol Puig Cepero

Oriol Puig Cepero is an associate researcher at CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs) within the framework of the CASCADES project on climate change and food security in the Western Sahel. He holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Barcelona, and his thesis on trans-Saharan mobility between Niger and Libya was recognized with the 2017 Extraordinary Prize of the University of Barcelona. He is an associate lecturer at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and tutor-lecturer of Social Anthropology at the UNED. He is also part of the Study Group of African Societies (GESA) from the University of Lleida, the Group of African Studies (GEA) at the Autonomous University of Madrid and the Study Group on Migration, Spaces and Societies (GERMES, in French) from the Abdou Mou mouni University of Niamey (Niger). He has worked as a journalist and as a consultant for international organizations and NGOs in the field of the externalization of European borders in the Sahel area. His fields of study include intra-African migrations, return migration, borders and identities within the framework of mobility.
