This article covers the lecture on The future of left politics in Europe given by Anthony Giddens in Barcelona on the 24th of February 2003. The author reviews the successes and failures of the Third Way and suggests the centre-left position must be reconstructed if it is to win the ideological, tactical and strategic battles necessary for the adaptation and application of its policies in a changing society.

Anthony Giddens
Anthony Giddens és sociòleg i professor de Sociologia a la Universitat de Cambridge. Ha estat director del London School of Economics and Political Science (1997-2003) i és membre del consell de l’Institute for Public Policy Research del Regne Unit. És internacionalment conegut per la seva teoria de l’estructuració i la seva mirada holística a les societats modernes. Ha publicat més d'una trentena de llibres, entre els quals Consecuencias de la modernidad (1993), Més enllà de la dreta i l’esquerra: Una nova política per al nou mil·leni (1998), i La tercera via: La renovació de la socialdemocràcia (1999).
