He has been a visiting professor at Stanford University and Georgetown University, and a visiting researcher at Princeton University, the University of California, Berkeley, and New York University. His research interests are concerned with fascism and authoritarianism, political elites and democratisation, among others. He has recently published the book O Essencial da Política Portuguesa (Lisbon, Tinta da China, 2022). He is also the author of América Latina en la era del fascismo (Granada, Comars, 2023).
