Holder of a PhD in Physics from the Complutense University of Madrid, he is a specialist in quantum technologies. He is a member the Spanish, German and Bavarian Academies of Science. He has received several awards, including the Prince of Asturias Award, the BBVA Frontiers of Knowledge Award, the Wolf Prize, the Micius Quantum Prize, and the Benjamin Franklin, Max Planck and Niels Bohr medals.
