Alessio Mamo is a freelance photographer settled in Catania. Graduated in chemistry, in 2007 he graduated in photography from the European Institute of Design in Rome. In 2008, he began his career in photojournalism focusing on contemporary social, political and economic issues. His pictures cover issues related to refugee displacement and migration. In 2018 he won the World Press Photo, 2nd Prize singles, with the picture of a young Iraqi girl hospitalized at the MSF hospital in Jordan. In 2020 he was again awarded the 2nd Prize singles with the picture of a Russian mother and her child in the Syrian camp of Al-Hol. He regularly collaborates with The Guardian<\/em> and L’Espresso<\/em>, and is also a contributing photographer for Doctors Without Borders and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
