He holds an MA in Social Sciences from the Centre for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences (Juan March Institute) and a PhD from the Autonomous University of Madrid. He won the 19th Prize for Doctoral Dissertations awarded by the Spanish Association of Political Science and Sociology. He has performed research stays at the Institute of Social Sciences in Lisbon, the Helen Kellogg Institute of International Studies in Indiana (United States) and the University of Pisa. He is author of the book <em>Contenci\u00f3n y transgresi\u00f3n. Las movilizaciones sociales y el Estado en las transiciones espa\u00f1ola y portuguesa<\/em> (Centre for Political and Constitutional Studies, 2000; translated into Portuguese in 2023). He is also co-author of the book <em>La integraci\u00f3n pol\u00edtica de los inmigrantes<\/em> (Comares, 2008) and co-editor of <em>Diversidad cultural, g\u00e9nero y derecho<\/em> (Tirant lo Blanch, 2014).
