He also holds a PhD in physics from Universit\u00e9 Toulouse III (France), in informatics by the Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Barcelona and a <em>Master of Science<\/em> in Computer Science by Berkeley University. He was also a professor at the Computer Sciences Faculty, in the Universitat de Barcelona and at Universit\u00e9 Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris. He is considered to be one of the pioneers in the field of artificial intelligence in Spain, and one of the most renowned scientists. He has been the chief editor of  <em>Artificial Intelligence Communications<\/em> and an associate editor of the <em>Artificial Intelligence Journal<\/em>, two of the most influential publications in the field of AI. He has been awarded with several prizes, such as the<em> Premi Ciutat de Barcelona de Recerca<\/em> in 1982, the <em>European Artificial Intelligence Research Award<\/em> in 1987 and the<em> American Association of Artificial Intelligence<\/em> (AAAI) <em>Robert S. Engelmore Award<\/em> in 2011. He is currently member of the Institut d&#8217;Estudis Catalans and, since 2000, he is a member of the ECCAI (European Association for Artificial Intelligence).
