The event will take place at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Biblioteca+de+l'Institut+Catal%C3%A0+Internacional+per+la+Pau\/@41.3846713,2.1748013,17z\/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x12a4a2ee21925145:0x5c72501d9477c0b6!8m2!3d41.3846673!4d2.17699\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ICIP Library<\/a> (Tapineria street, 10, Barcelona; first floor) on Friday, May 6, at 12 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lissu has been a member of the Tanzanian Parliament between 2010 and 2020, as well as Tanzania&#8217;s presidential candidate in 2020. An outspoken critic of Tanzania\u2019s former president, John Magufuli, during a break in a Parliament\u2019s session in 2017 Lissu was attacked by gunmen and ended up critically wounded. He was first sent to Kenya and then to Belgium to undergo medical treatment and surgery, where he now lives awaiting for a favorable political environment in his home country to return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Building up on his own personal experience, Tund Lissu will address recent trends in political repression in Africa \u2013and beyond the continent\u2013 reflecting on the threat it poses on democracies and the role of political opposition in an atmosphere of global fragility for liberal societies. The seminar will be moderated by Manuel Manonelles, director of the Center for Contemporary Studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This session is part of the IDEES&#8217; magazine special issue &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/revistaidees.cat\/en\/monografics\/africa-center-stage-to-a-changing-reality\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Africa: center stage of a changing reality<\/a>&#8216;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event is open to the public.
