In the United States, one of the tournament\u2019s host countries, immigration has become an increasingly central political issue. The actions of ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) have come to symbolise the tension between global mobility and state control. Indiscriminate deportations and violent incidents associated with anti-immigration operations\u2014such as the cases of Ren\u00e9e Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis\u2014, reveal the extent to which the movement of people remains deeply unequal and hierarchical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Such contradiction has been reinforced by Donald Trump\u2019s recent political rhetoric, which has recast immigration as a central marker of identity. In this context, the border functions not only as an administrative mechanism but also as a cultural and symbolic device. The paradox is clear: the same global system that celebrates the free movement of capital, brands and footballers arbitrarily restricts the mobility of millions of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These tensions affect not only states but also the institutions that govern global football.
