Women’s presence and working conditions in the world of film have been one of the most controversial issues in recent years. Men and women’s consumption of film and academic interest in the cinema are the same, but women have lower levels of employment and recognition in the industry, although this has improved substantially in recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the 2017-2018 academic year, 465 women and 428 men studied film or audiovisuals in the Catalan university system. There is a talent drain, however, when these skills are transferred to the world of work, as shown by the latest employment figures for the sector, from 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the proportion of women recognised at the Gaud\u00eds, the Catalan film awards, increased a little in 2019, but is still under 40%, the threshold at which the genders may be considered to be evenly balanced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
